Article on backcountry excursions with large format gear
Each summer I undertake backcountry trips with my large format gear, and I have developed techniques for researching good locations for shots, getting into shape and of course packing for the trip.
I plan to write an ongoing article about large format in the field, and post it on ELFPA. In the article I draft, I'll outline how to prepare to get individual shots and avoid costly mistakes while in backcountry. I'll also give information about the locations I visit and post photographs when I get them.

Re: Article on backcountry excursions with large format gear
. Hi Scott,
I'm looking forward to your report. I am trying to figure out hope to venture out a bit further with the 4X5. Now I park the car, walk 150 - 200 meters, set up the camera and take a few pictures. I use a monorail camera, so it's not the easiest thing to travel with. I've been thinking about designing some type of cart that would allow for easy transportation. Or trying to find a big baby stroller on CraigsList.

 Thanks Frank; Great Article !
. I was thinking about getting a used stroller, did you modify that in anyway ? I was thinking about adding Beach Buggy Wheels, for easier transport over rough terrain. And I also have to work on the previsualization factor. As patient as I think I am when I'm in Large Format Mode, I'll need to extend that even more. Thanks Again for a great article !

Hi Ron, No, it came that way. Do you see the where the handle is attached to the back of the cart? There's a little crook in it that my tripod fits right into lying crosswise. It's perfect. I think that one could get bigger tires for it, but I haven't found a need to. The tires it came with work alright in sand. Generally, if your feet have difficulty in soft sand, your cart will also. I did remove the seat belts and safety reflectors from the cart rear, and hung S-hooks from the holes to hang my insulated water jugs from. If I could make a modification, it would be to add a handbrake somehow. The cart fully loaded tends to pull you down hills and this becomes rough on your feet.
